SIR — Like Councillor Doug Ross (Free Press August 16) I have had occasion recently to use the number 28 bus service to Taunton, and like him I was not impressed.
The buses are slow, dirty and unreliable, and that's before the timetable changes.
Should you be travelling back from London to Taunton, the first evening off-peak train arrives too late to catch the last bus. So much for joined up transportation systems.
I consider that all these changes will serve to do is to further reduce demand, no doubt leading to further cuts.
As to whether it is economic, that depends on the criteria applied to the income and funding.
Perhaps it is time to look at the economic model on which these services are based for what should after all be a public service.
It is obvious that transport links to Minehead are vital to the local economy and should be treated with rather more importance.
Cllr O C Harvey,
Minehead Town Council.
