THE one-acre garden at Elworthy Cottage is open as part of the National Gardens Scheme Snowdrop Festival on three occasions in February, starting tomorrow.

The garden has over 350 named varieties of snowdrops, mostly clearly labelled, as well as areas where the common snowdrop is naturalised.

Due to the early season, many different hellebores and cyclamen are in full flower, giving extra colour and interest planted among the snowdrops.

The many varieties of unusual shrubs and trees planted around the garden provide cover for the large number of different birds that visit during the winter including long tailed tits, nuthatches, woodpeckers, fieldfares and redwings

There will be teas in aid of the Children’s Hospice South West.

The garden will be open from 11am to 4pm on February 3, 9 and 15. It could be wet underfoot. Admission £4, free entry for children.

Elworthy Cottage is situated in the village on the B3188 between Watchet and Wiveliscombe. Phone for details 01984 656427 or see the Elworthy Cottage website.
