THE Exford and Simonsbath Flower and Produce Show was bathed in sunshine and drew its biggest crowd yet.

Exford Village Green was filled with marquees of produce, stalls offering food and drink and plenty of traditional games and challenges.

Younger residents threw themselves into their creative entries and then channelled their energies into enthusiastic bouts of tug-of-war and races on the green.

The show was opened by vexillologist Robin Ashburner who is known not only for his flag expertise but also, having entered the show on many occasions, for his award-winning giant leeks and onions.

Sadly, this year Exford had to say goodbye to two stalwarts of not just the show but also of the village. Peter Batchelor and Terry Atkins both worked tirelessly for the show for many years and were also fierce competitors in the vegetable classes.

It was unanimously agreed that their efforts should be remembered and so the runner-up in the vegetable show will receive the Peter Batchelor Cup. The Terry Atkins Memorial Cup will go to best exhibit is awarded for the best exhibit.
