Tourist information centres in Yeovil (Petters Way) and Podimore have been praised by independent inspectors.
The district council-run centres were put to the test by inspectors posing as members of the public - known as mystery shoppers in the trade.
Enquiries could be made in person, by phone, by e-mail or fax - with the response being closely monitored and documented.
The Podimore centre was described as "exceptionally well-stocked, well-displayed and well-maintained".
Inspectors also noted the excellent selection of quality local gifts for sale as well as books and postcards. The report added: "The member of staff was easily identifiable, looked neat and tidy and was very welcoming, with good eye contact.
Staff at the Petters Way centre were reported as being polite, helpful and having good telephone manners.
The rich selection of information available was also given the seal of approval. "The mystery shopper is a useful management tool which has already resulted in improvements to services," tourism manager Nell Barrington commented.
