ROUND 300 children from a federation of West Somerset first schools spent a day celebrating and focusing on sustainability through outdoor eco activities – and raised £200 for a tree charity.

The Moorland Federation of five first schools – Dunster, St Dubricius in Porlock, Timberscombe, Exford and Cutcombe – enjoyed a whole day when their entire curriculum was devoted to learning about the environment.

At the same time, the charity Just One Tree was chosen by a group of pupils, and families across the federation donated money to raise over £200. It means an additional 200 trees can be planted in countries such as Madagascar, Kenya, Haiti and Mozambique.

“This collaborative event occurred simultaneously in each of the five schools, raising more funds and planting more trees across the world by working together effectively,” a statement from the schools’ headteachers said.

“We were all extremely pleased with the event and the learning for our pupils.”
