CREATIVE achievement at Knights Templar School, in Watchet, has received national recognition from the Arts Council. The school has been selected for an Artsmark Award for the quality of dance, drama and music. Arts Council chairman Sir Christopher Frayling offered his "warm congratulations" and said: "It is very encouraging to see so many schools displaying such dedication to their arts provision. "They are bringing the arts alive for young people and giving them opportunities to get closely involved with a wide range of activities including work with arts practitioners and within the wider community." The creative arts form an integral part of the curriculum at Knights Templar where there are also out-of-school clubs. Pupils are encouraged to develop their abilities in a wide range of skills from drawing, painting and model making to music, dance and drama. Performers from overseas have been invited to work with the children who, in turn, have taken their own talents, such as singing with the choir and country dance, into the community. The school stages a major dance and drama production each year as well as a Christmas show, and the flourishing drama group is currently working on The Wizard of Oz. And the young artists' not only display their work around the school but have also taken part in a workshop at the National Trust owned Montecute House and viewed paintings at Taunton Museum.
