KNIGHTS Templar Community Church School at Watchet raised £458.75 following its Children in Need Day.

Headmaster David Frowde said: “This year Children in Need promoted an ‘Act Your Age Challenge’, where you run an event or an activity related to your age. We have a wonderful ‘Smart Council,’ which is our children’s council and they organised a vote to see what we could do for this challenge.

“Every child in our school has a voice and the vote came back unanimous. The children decided that they would make the same number of spots as their combined age and stick them on the outside of the school, turning the school spotty!

“The combined age of the children was 1,250 in years, meaning between us we had to make 1,250 dots. Each of the children made sure that one of their dots was extra special with a message of hope.

“Each class came and added their dots to the front of the school and by lunchtime, all of the classes had safely added theirs under Covid safety guidelines.

It was a wonderfully magical day and a roaring success. So a big thank you to our fantastic parents who always support us so well. We were even more delighted to have featured on BBC’s Points West and the national Children in Need programme.

“Thank you to our staff also for putting in the time and effort, getting all of the spots ready and for creating such a brilliant atmosphere!”

Mr Frowde added: “It was more important to us to make a bigger effort this year, not just because it was the 40th anniversary of Children in Need, but because of all that the children have had to endure this year. The school lockdown and home learning have been a challenge and the children missed their friends and routine. It is important that this generation of children are not the ones that missed out because of all the things that have had to be cancelled.”
