SIR — I would like to express my grateful thanks to the people of Porlock who have yet again come up trumps by raising enough money for two defibrillators, one for Porlock and one for Porlock Weir.

Not only has all the money been raised, but it has been raised in record time.

The project arose after witnessing a friend’s heart attack, which he only survived due to the immediate response of three nurses who were also present.

This made me realise the importance of prompt action in such circumstances.

I only began fundraising less than three months ago, and the response from local residences has been astounding. The defibrillators will truly belong to all of us.

There is a second part to the project, because I intend to have 100 people trained in using defibrillators and CPR, and thanks to the wonderful support of Dr Ed Ford from Irnham Lodge Surgery in Minehead, we have already begun the programme.

I have always said that Porlock is a special place and Porlock people are second to none. I am privileged to live in such a unique village.

If you would like to undertake a short training session which could save the life of a loved one, please fill in details in Porlock Hardware shop.

Denise Sage,

Porlock.
