PUPILS from three West Somerset schools raised hundreds of pounds for charity when they threw on their favourite trainers. The RNLI's Save Our Soles Day at the end of January boosted the coffers of the Minehead Lifeboat funds by more than £800. The event was supported by St Dubricius First School in Porlock, which raised £103, Minehead Middle, whose tally was £260, and the West Somerset Community College, which added £471 to the total. The youngsters all donated at least £1 each to swop their traditional school shoes for trainers for the day. Barry Lanham of the Minehead RNLI Guild, said: "The event was launched nationally last year but this was the first time West Somerset had taken part. "This was a tremendous effort by these schools and we are very grateful."
