A FUNDRAISING day at a hairdresser’s in Alcombe has raised over £1,000 for the cancer care charity Hope for Tomorrow.

Holly Farmer, who has run Holly’s salon in Alcombe Road, for almost three years, gave a day’s takings to the charity, along with donations for teas, coffees and cakes that were served specially throughout the day.

“We were blown away by how much people wanted to help, they were really generous,” said Holly.

“My target was around £500 – but this went completely above and we raised an amazing £1,003.90.”

Hope for Tomorrow is a dedicated charity enabling patients to be treated closer to home through mobile cancer care units, including the Bumble bus in Somerset that visits Minehead.

Holly said she was inspired to raise funds for the charity because she knew from clients, friends and family, how valuable the service was for them.

“A lot of people use it and being in a rural area, where you don’t have to travel 20 miles for treatment when you’re feeling a bit rubbish, makes it so much easier,” she said.

Holly said three friends came in to help serve teas, coffees and cakes while normal business carried on in the salon, and it was greatly enjoyed by clients who were having their hair done or who popped in specially.

“I can’t thank everyone who was involved enough – staff, clients, friends and businesses who all helped make the day a success,” said Holly.
