SIR — There has to be something wrong when our only public swimming pool is under threat of closure apparently "because we can't afford it" when the councillors who must make the decision vote themselves a huge pay rise.
They are taking the very money that might have saved Aquasplash just to pay themselves.
It appears the issue is a lack of money, so it follows that every councillor who accepts a wage from the community must have a conflict of interest when deciding the future of Aquasplash.
It does not bear thinking that we might lose our one and only tourist attraction just to pay our representatives whose published wish is "to serve the community".

Dunster waterwheel restoration will safeguard millennium of milling heritageIf they really want to serve their community they can do so by refusing to take the money and instead put it towards saving our one and only public recreational facility.
I challenge every councillor who rejects this payment to speak up in these columns now.
