WATCHET sailor Dave Woodhouse hopes to be stepping safely on dry land on August 24 – after making a 15,000ft parachute jump!

Dave, who lives on his motor-cruiser Bishop Rock in Watchet marina, will be making his tandem jump from Devon’s Dunkeswell airfield.

“I’ve never done anything remotely like this before,” said Dave.

“I’m in my 60s and thought it was time to get out my comfort zone – as well as raise money for a good cause."

He is making the jump to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

“I don’t really know what to expect but it will be pretty scary. A 15,000ft jump is two and a half miles.

“Normally, you need oxygen at that height, but free-falling down to 10,000ft only takes a minute, then you float down with no problems – or so I’m told!

“I reckon that after this, the Bristol Channel will be a doddle.”
