A SANTA fun run is to be held in Watchet for the first time this year to raise funds for the upkeep and improvement of the town’s war memorial recreation rround.
The recreation ground committee hopes it will be the start of a new annual tradition for the town.
Runners dressed in festive hats and suits will be asked to run or walk 10 laps of the playing field, which equates to about three miles or five kilometres.
But even if they can only complete one lap they will still be welcome to take part.
Entry fees at £5 for adults, or £10 if not suitably suited, and £1 for children, who must be at least 14 years old and supervised, plus any sponsorship raised, will help with a National Lottery Heritage Fund application being prepared by the town council, which wants to see the ground’s football and cricket pavilion restored.
The Santa fun run will be held on Sunday, December 7, with registrations on the day being taken from 10 am for an 11 am start.
There will be prizes for the best festive dressed adult and child and every person will receive lap certificates.
A spokesperson said: “Please come along and support for an hour, even if only watching and not taking part, as teas and coffees are for sale in the pavilion and there are great raffle prizes to help raise much needed funds.
“The football club will be open afterwards for drinks, etc.”
Tickets and sponsorship forms are available for cash only in Watchet Visitors Centre, which is opening on winter hours of 10 am to 3 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, or online.
Sponsor forms are also available in Albert's ’Ardware or in the football club, and any funds collected after the event should be taken to the visitor centre.
