SIR — I take the Free Press every week and am appalled by the comments from David Jessup and Ros Robinson (Your Letters November 23).

I grew up in Wootton Courtenay and went to Minehead School, swam in the Lido went to the cinema etc.

My best friend, whose parents farmed at Exford, now runs a café in Minehead, and that is the only reason I visit with my husband and grandchildren now.

Do these two letter writers not see that Minehead is a tourist town and that is the main source of income?

My husband and I visit smaller resorts and towns with our grandchildren and, yes, they all offer more facilities than Minehead and that includes everyone, old or young.

David Jessup's comment that the business owner should "relocate to the Shangri-La that is Torquay" and Ros Robinson comment that the visitor who commented on Minehead should "buzz off to Bognor" speaks volumes of the mindset of just a handful of residents in Minehead.

Wake up Minehead. Read John Clyde-Smith's [Federation of Small Businesses] advertisement in the same issue of the Free Press and all work together as the town is wonderful but being run by the wrong stuffy people.
