RORY Capel from Wootton Courtenay is celebrating after becoming the Mounted Games Association's Southern Individual Champion of 2012.

The 16-year-old and his pony Peppi travelled to Brockenhurst in Hampshire to compete in the 17 and under section of the two-day competition and after day one he was joint first with Ellie Turner from Warwickshire.

But on the second day he won all but two races to finish six points ahead of her and clinch the championship.

Another local rider, 11-year-old George Hobbs, a member of the Quantock Pony club, won the mini section for riders under 12 on his pony Dusty, and Jess Hindle from Taunton was third in the open Individual section.
