More than 100 roads across Somerset will be surface dressed this summer, Somerset County Council has confirmed.
The council council has published a full list of roads across the county which will be surface dressed over the next couple of months to prevent further damage and improve traction for drivers.
Surface dressing is a nationally recognised maintenance technique for sealing a road, improving skid resistance, and preventing water getting under the surface – which is crucial to help stop potholes forming.
It works by coating an existing road with bitumen, covering it with stone chippings and then rolling it.
Because the work is dependent on warm weather, the timings of each individual stretch may change at short notice – and could be extended beyond the summer if weather conditions prove inhospitable.
Councillor Mike Rigby, portfolio holder for transport and digital, said: “Every year we deliver these programmes in order to ensure safety and longevity of our network.
“We are committed to keeping our roads intact and verges trim, but we are always looking to improve our service and the way engage with the public, so together we can ensure our network is safe and resilient.
“If you do spot a problem on the road, you can alert us quickly and easily by using our ‘report it’ function.”
