Cesium, ridden by Geoff Barfoot-Saunt, made most of the running until an altercation with Really Unique, ridden by Byron Moorcroft, who was then in the lead until Charlotte Hawker, riding Midnight Appeal, produced a challenge.
There followed an incident described afterwards in the stewards’ enquiry as “improper riding”, which resulted in the race being awarded to Midnight Appeal.
Really Unique was demoted to second and Byron Moorcroft was fined £100.
