A HOLIDAYMAKER had to be rescued from Blue Anchor beach on Wednesday after getting stuck in mud.

Specialist mud rescue volunteers from the Watchet and Minehead coastguard teams were called out to deal with the incident, which happened at around 12.30pm.

A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said a member of the public raised the alarm with a 999 call.

The teams injected water into the mud to make it soft before digging the woman out and transferring her to a stretcher and finally into a waiting ambulance to be checked out.

But she emerged uninjured from the ordeal.

Steve Matthews, watch manager at Swansea Coastguard, said the woman had been "well and truly" stuck in the mud.

"Our mud rescue teams were on the scene very quickly and she was safely recovered."

He said anyone finding themselves in a similar situation should try and spread their weight as much as possible and, if they had a mobile phone, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.

"Avoid moving and stay as calm as you can.

"Discourage others from attempting to rescue you, since without the proper equipment they could become stuck too."
