DAY in, day out, come rain or shine, Royal British Legion veteran Ken Stephens was at his post in Williton selling poppies in the run-up to Remembrance Day.

And his dedication saw him singlehandedly collect just over £1,147 for the Williton branch's Poppy Appeal effort.

Mr Stephens was on daily duty outside the village's Co-op supermarket, selling poppies as well as meeting old friends and making new acquaintances.

But he did take a brief break last Friday morning - to attend an Armistice Day wreath-laying ceremony at Williton's war memorial, where he is pictured.

A report and pictures on how West Somerset remembered appears on Page 9.
