Early in 2018, a group spearheaded by the Royal British Legion Watchet Branch agreed to mark the centenary of the Armistice of 1918 with 11 days of events beginning on November 1 and culminating in a parade and church service on November 11.
This required ideas gathering, developing and planning over many months and a great deal of hard work by members of the group.
The purpose of this letter is to extend my thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to the undoubted success of this project.
The parade on Sunday was attended by many and various organisations from the town, and the Methodist church was packed with over 500 people of all ages.

In the evening, a vigil was held at the town’s war memorial, culminating in a plea for peace in the future by our town crier, who echoed similar pleas made by criers across the country.
Such an undertaking is a reflection of the community spirit which exists in Watchet, and the town may be justifiably proud of its achievement.
