THREE leaders from the 1st Watchet Sea Scout Group have been presented with awards. Group Scout Leader Malcolm Bale, Assistant Scout Leader Karen Smyth and Explorer Scout Leader Jeremy Szabo all received Scout Association recognition at a county presentation day for their work within the scouting organisation. Nominated locally but then presided over at a national level, the awards are announced before St George's Day each year. Malcolm has completed over 40 years' service as a warranted leader and received the Silver Acorn, in recognition of especially distinguished service. Karen, who has 17 years' service, received the Medal of Merit which is awarded after a period of not less than 12 years. It recognises keen, conscientious, imaginative and dedicated service over a sustained period. Jeremy Szabo, who has been with the scout group for nearly ten years, received a Chief Scout's Commendation. This award for good service is regarded as recognition of a very real contribution made to the association. UK Chief Commissioner for Scouts Wayne Bulpitt said: "The success, dedication and commitment of our volunteers and staff are recognised through the national honours and our own good service awards. "Across the country, society recognises the value of scouting's non formal education through fun and adventure, and this is down to our growing number of volunteers. "These awards give us a great sense of pride as we recognise those who have gone that extra mile with their exceptional service or acts of immense bravery in overcoming adversity. "We take this opportunity each year to say a very big and heartfelt congratulations and thankyou."
