WELL-known Irish concert pianist and composer Philip Martin will be giving a recital in All Saints’ Church, Dulverton, on Thursday (April 12).

But first the Professor of Music at Birmingham City University and senior lecturer in piano at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, is to give children at Dulverton Junior School a ‘masterclass workshop’.

He will listen to some of the pupils who are learning musical instruments, and the whole school singing one of the songs they have learned this term.

Afterwards he will play examples of both classical and popular piano music.

At his evening recital, Philip will play pieces from the many recordings he has made, including, Chopin, Grieg, Gottschalk and his own compositions. CDs will be for sale.

It starts at 8pm; doors open at 7pm when drinks and refreshments will be available. Admission will be free, and there will be a retiring collection to cover expenses and raise funds for music at Dulverton Junior and All Saints Infants schools.
