SIR — A real donkey and a pony, lanterns and glow sticks, carol singing and the story of the nativity, no rain but snow ... of the artificial kind; Watchet's Nativity Procession and Community Nativity Service on December 20 was a wonderful occasion.

The procession began at Knights Templar First School at the end of the school day and followed Joseph and Mary riding on a donkey into the town. The couple tried to find somewhere to stay but were told that all of the town's B&Bs had "no room".

Eventually they found shelter on Watchet's Esplanade where the story of the arrival of Jesus was told, accompanied by wonderful carol singing from over 100 people who came to join in with the occasion.

The event concluded with hot drinks and mince pies supplied by the Phoenix Centre.

Thanks are due to the many people who volunteered their time to make this community event such a success, particularly to Frances Burns, headteacher of Knights Templar School, Watchet Remembrance Project Group, the Phoenix Centre and the Christians Together in Watchet and Williton group.
