AN award-winning American brewery has created a specially-brewed IPA beer in memory of Derek, Watchet’s female goose, which disappeared in mysterious circumstances last November after living in the town’s marina for ten years.

Leading craft brewers the Goose Island Beer Company of Chicago, report that the hazy IPA beer containing malted barley, oats and wheat, in a distinctive can bearing Derek’s name, is selling well online in the UK and Europe. A spokesman for the company said: "This beer has been brewed in honour of Derek, Watchet’s town’s beloved goose, which has recently gone missing, having migrated there ten years ago.

"This new IPA is light and refreshing and we are sending Derek good migrations, wherever she may be."

A Go Fund Me online campaign, organised by Watchet resident Carron Scott, has already raised £1,138 of a £1,500 target to commission a bronze statue of Derek which it is hoped will be placed on the town’s Esplanade as a permanent memorial.
