Champagne corks were popping last week as it was revealed that a fundraising target for the Rainbow Room at Yeovil District Hospital had been hit.
The £10,000 target was exceeded, with £11,500 being in the coffers at the moment. Organisers say there is still some money to be counted, which means the sum is likely to reach the £12,000 mark.
The Rainbow Room is a place where parents and siblings can stay overnight with children that for medical reasons are not allowed home.
Money raised will help fund a complete refurbishment of the facility. Kitchen and toilet areas, for example, are in need of improvement and a fridge that meets anti-bacteriological criteria is also needed.
Equipment such as a TV, a video, headphones etc are also high on the list.
The campaign started before Christmas when nurses and a parent approached Chicago Rock in Yeovil for a raffle prize.
John Hicks of Chicago Rock decided to aim a little further than so, and got YDRfm and Scottish Power onboard.
Sheborne Lions Club, Yeovil Traders' Grasstrack, ASDA and Robin James Hair Salons joined as the campaign was underway, raising funds in a number of ways.
A function to celebrate the achievement was held last week at Chicago Rock, where John Hicks said: "This was a team effort, but particular thanks to Yeovil Traders' Charity Grasstrack, who contributed a significant sum of money.
"In addition, I would like to thank Tony Temple and Danny D of YDRfm, who worked tirelessly in all winds and weathers rattling the bucket."
