EVERYONE was a winner when Minehead Cricket Club hosted their second sports quiz at the Queen's Hall last Friday evening.

Fifty teams took part in the event, with Redknapp Accountants - led by local sportsman Luke Taylor - the winners of the £100 prize and a selection of tea and coffee from D J Miles and Co, one of the evening's sponsors.

The £250 cash draw on the night was shared between Richard Bowditch and George Parsons, both members of Minehead Cricket Club.

And the £1,000 for a local organisation or charity was won by St Michael's CE First School, the good cause nominated by the team of John Sweetland, whose wife Tracey is the school's PTA chairman.

The money will go towards the school's target of £70,000 for a replacement swimming pool.

"We have a huge amount of money to raise but we are nearly halfway towards getting there, so this £1,000 will give the fund a great boost," said Tracey.

"We try to do a fundraising activity every month, and on Friday night we also raised £300 from a disco, so it was a good weekend for us one way and another.

"When my husband texted me from the quiz to say that St Michael's had won the £1,000 prize I thought he was joking, but its true so we are chuffed to pieces and it's absolutely brilliant."

Stuart Tudball of Minehead Cricket Club, which organised the event, said: "The whole evening was enjoyed by everybody who was there and it looks like we will have raised approximately £3,500 which will go towards our new pavilion.

"The overall cost of the pavilion will be in excess of £200,000 and all being well we hope to have it in place by early 2013.

"The club would like to thank all of the sponsors of the evening, especially Richard Beaver of Beaver Ford, along with everybody else who helped to make the evening a success."
