THE people of Roadwater have been celebrating the 90th anniversary of the opening of their village hall with the unveiling of a wall-hanging representing their impressions of the village.
Some 90 people each decorated a small square of material on the theme of “what Roadwater is to me”, and they were assembled and stitched together by Mo Best and Carol Prentice (pictured), with the border being worked by Mo.
Roadwater Village Hall was a gift to the village from Mr and Mrs Reckitt, who lived in Golsoncott House, and it was opened on October 27th 1918.
Mo and Carol said that everyone who saw the quilt at the celebration tea party on Saturday was delighted and impressed.
“Every one of these squares is different,” said Mo. “Some are very skilfully done, some are very simple, but they have come together to create a beautiful and vibrant work of art which we hope will hang here for many years to come.”
