QUAY Street in Minehead is fully open again – a day ahead of target – after essential maintenance on the cliffs above.

The works were commissioned by West Somerset Council to protect properties from the risk of falling rock and debris.

It entailed removing dead and dying trees from the steep slopes, emptying “catch nets” designed to hold debris and strengthening the nets’ fixings.

The street was closed for three weeks while heavy machinery was deployed by contractors on the site – but reopened on Friday (July 8), a day earlier than planned.
