SIR — What a shame it is that despite all the cost overruns there are still significant problems with the new council offices in Williton.

One would assume by the time all the contractual wrangling is sorted out between the various parties involved, the bill to put everything in order will be in excess of £15,000.

It would therefore seem obvious for the sake of consistency the council have only one solution to this problem.

They have shown only recently what their policy is towards modern public facilities constructed with public money that develop relatively minor problems which could be easily rectified for the good of West Somerset residents; I look forward to seeing the building rased to the ground.

On a more serious note, we were led to believe back in late 2007 that the council had such a tight control on its finances that a £15,000 repair bill for the Aquasplash swimming pool rendered the whole facility commercially unviable.

Later of course, with the shortfall in funding for New Horizons, it became obvious that such a sum would not even register on the council's financial radar.

We were told by the council when the decision was made to demolish Aquasplash that it would be a major priority for the council to find a way to provide a replacement facility as soon as possible.

They have been as far as I can see pretty quiet on the subject ever since - not even one of their favoured management consultant's reports on the subject has been instigated.

If Cllr Galloway is as keen as he says in his letter to the Free Press last week to provide facilities to attract visitors to the town, I suggest he concentrate his efforts on making his statue of Arthur C Clark the centre piece of the entrance of the new swimming pool.
