EASTER bonnets went on parade as youngsters from schools in Dunster and Minehead lined up to celebrate the season in style.

Every pupil from reception class to year four at Dunster First was invited to create a hat or bonnet and the results, according to headteacher Peter Hoyland, were spectacular.

"There was an amazing array of hats covered in chicks, eggs, feathers, spring flowers and ribbons," he said.

The parade was headed up by the school's own Easter bunny - administrative assistant Ruth Thrush who dressed up for the occasion and led every class around the hall to show off the home-made headgear.

Judges faced a difficult task but after much deliberation the winners were named.

In reception class, Blaise Mancini and Katie Wilmot won the prizes, in year one, Imogen Evans and Harrison Willis, year two, Miyah Buck and Freya Margison, year three, Bella Richards and Siobhan Jones, and in year four, Odie Price and Georgina Hartgen.

Mr Hoyland said: "I would like to thank all the children and parents and carers for working so hard to produce such a wonderful variety of hats for our Easter parade .

"Thanks also to our judge Kathy Hatt and to the parent teachers association for providing the prizes for the children."

Youngsters at Minehead First also got into the Easter spirit with cheeky chicks and bunnies galore in a parade in which everyone was a winner.
