THE 2025 Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Somerset branch ‘pub trail’ has been launched with a number of West Somerset and Exmoor public houses taking part this year.
Beer drinkers, and even people who do not drink beer, can take part and have until September 13, to explore the trail’s pubs.
This year sees 50 pubs involved, each with a supply of CAMRA’s trail leaflet which the publicans will stamp for people taking part.
West Somerset and Exmoor are well represented this year, including The Star Inn and recently reopened West Somerset Hotel, in Watchet, the White Horse Inn, in Washford, Minehead’s Kildare Lodge, the Exmoor White Horse Inn, in Exford, and Withypool’s Royal Oak Inn.
Trail organiser Kate Redgate said: “Despite the overall spread, many of the pubs are not that far apart.
“Somerset CAMRA are keen to make it clear that even if only five or six houses are visited, the trail offers a chance to make new discoveries and meet new people, an important part of life in these increasingly screen-bound times.
“Anybody who visits 20 of the pubs will receive a T-shirt commemorating this year’s trail and any dedicated traveller who manages 40 will receive the shirt and be entered into a draw to win a meal for two, up to the value of £75, at one of the partaking inns.”
Ms Redgate said despite the preference of CAMRA members for cask conditioned beers, it was not necessary to drink a real ale to take part.
She said: “It is the visit that counts, and any drink will count, including soft drinks and tea or coffee.
“The trail is a well-established part of the Somerset branch’s activities and in the past various methods of travel have featured in the visits, including cycling, the West Somerset Railway, and even horseback.”
