SIR — Following the letter about cups of tea and toilets (April 10), I say this: These days, many elderly people are prescribed diuretics to reduce blood pressure, so old people need toilets now more than their grandparents did 70 years ago. To those who think closing toilets is a good idea, I would say they should have to clean toilets for six months. Alternatively, they could be made to take diuretics, then travel on buses to towns with few toilets and see how they get on. In an urban area, access to public toilets should be a basic human right. And our politicians criticise some other nations on their human rights record. Connie Holmes, Langley Marsh, Wivelsicombe.
