SIR — On Saturday August 22 at Higher Marsh Farm in Dunster Marsh, the Buttercross Community Orchard held its fifth and probably last annual barn dance at the venue.
It was a tremendous success with well over 150 people attending. Everybody had a wonderful time and the Quantock Quarenders, as usual, had most of the audience dancing the night away.
The evening made a profit of over £900 which will be shared with Dunster Village Cricket Club’s under 13s, who were this year’s beneficiaries.
As chairman of the orchard committee, I would like to express our thanks to local firms GA Sully and Sons and Eagle Plant. We know this event would not be able to take place without their support, which they have provided since 2011.
Also thanks to Jacobs of Dunster and Dunster Beach Holidays for helping to sell tickets and supply raffle prizes. Other donors of raffle prizes were D J Miles, Morrisons, Tesco, Coop, and Dyer’s Traits in Dunster and we are extremely grateful to them as well as he local people who provided prizes.
To all those regulars who come every year, rest assured the orchard committee will be searching as hard as it can to provide a venue for next year.
Doug Challoner,
Buttercross Orchard Committee,
Dunster.
