WEST Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger has praised the authorities for their efficiency after two sets of night-time road closures through the centre of Porlock.
The main street was shut off for sewerage works on two nights last week, and this week it was closed again every evening for road resurfacing.
Mr Liddell-Grainger said there had inevitably been a degree of disruption for families in the village.
He said: “But these have been necessary works and have been specifically timed to avoid holiday peaks and to reduce the chances of bad weather making the alternative routes difficult or impassable.
“Road resurfacing is an absolutely essential operation, not merely in Porlock’s case where the A39 through the village is very heavily used, but in general terms because once roads are allowed to deteriorate beyond a certain point you are then into road reconstruction, a far costlier, longer, and more disruptive undertaking altogether.
“My thanks go to the contractors who have worked so efficiently to keep disruption, disturbance, and inconvenience to a minimum.”
