I have been following with interest the letters for trains to connect from the West Somerset Railway to the national rail network.

As a regular visitor to the area, I feel there is a need and that such a connection would be beneficial.

Could this be achieved by using existing timetables, with an agreement between WSR and Great Western to terminate their hourly Cardiff to Taunton service at Bishops Lydeard? Passengers could then change between GWR and WSR trains there.

This would allow convenient visitor connections between holiday destinations along the WSR including Butlin’s, relieving the congestion on the local 28 bus service.

It would also be useful if a halt was constructed outside Minehead to service Butlin’s holiday travellers during busy times. I am sure Butlin’s would be willing to assist in the cost of such a halt.
