PORLOCK’S volunteer-run Dovery Manor Museum reopened for the season on Thursday (May 1) with a special exhibition running through May and June about villagers during the Second World War, and marking the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The exhibition pays tribute to each of the 13 men from Porlock who lost their lives in war, and to some of the 120 men from the village sent to fight throughout Europe, Africa, and the Far East.

It also celebrates those who served at home in the Home Guard, as Air Raid Wardens or in the Royal Observer Corps, and the many women who supported the war effort through work for the Women’s Voluntary Services and the Red Cross.
