GUESTS at next week’s launch of a Living Well initiative in Porlock will include Somerset Deputy Lord Lieutenant Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff.

Mr Moncrieff will be accompanied by High Sheriff of Somerset Peter Dixon and High Sheriff nominee Nina Coad for the occasion on Friday, June 12.

Local MP Rachel Gilmour and Somerset Council chairman Cllr Mike Best will also attend the village hall for the new initiative to help people live well, stay strong, and remain independent.

The Porlock Vale CIC service is being supported by the Accelerating Reform Fund from Somerset Council.

It aims to ensure everybody feels supported, has real choice, and can access high-quality care and advice whenever it is needed.

A spokesperson said: “With one of the most ageing populations in the UK, and as an area facing real challenges, this work matters more than ever.

“Our aim is simple, to make sure everybody in Porlock Vale has the support they need to live confidently and independently at home and in the community.”

The service will also welcome residents from a wider area than just Porlock Vale as it is known many Minehead residents travel to Porlock for its community events.

Porlock Vale CIC has teamed up with Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership, NHS Somerset Foundation Trust, Living Better team, and numerous other organisations to organise the friendly, welcoming event where people can explore the many ways to stay active, healthy, and independent.

It will also be launching its new community support services, including:

• A helpful information programme

• Micro-provider services

• The Good Neighbour Scheme

People are invited to go along any time between 10.30 am and 4 pm and meet the service’s caring and knowledgeable partners, who will be on hand to chat, answer questions, and offer support, whether people need it now or just want to plan for the future.
