HEAVY rain held off just long enough for spectators to enjoy Porlock’s traditional Carnival procession, followed by prize-giving with a disco and refreshments in the village hall last Saturday.

Now in its 32nd year, the event – the only remaining carnival on Exmoor – saw fun entries from people of all ages on a variety of themes, with everything from floats to walking groups.

A total of £2,000 was raised for local causes through collections and donations.

“We were pleased to attract such a good turnout considering it had rained all day but the weather cleared just in time for the procession,” said carnival committee chairman Nigel Southwood.

“It was a real village event, full of good fun – just fabulous The carnival is always hugely supported by the village, with everyone getting involved from the bowls club to the churches and individuals.”
