‘POPPIES at Porlock’ was the winning subject of Somerset Wildlife Trust’s first Coastal Wildlife Photography Competition.

Naomi Turley’s photograph was selected from a large number of entries by the charity’s president, Stephen Moss, and Living Seas Ambassador Nigel Phillips.

Naomi, who grew up near Monksilver and now lives in Clevedon, said: “The sun illuminating the red of the poppies in contrast with the grey pebbles really caught my eye.

“I’m really chuffed to win this competition and I hope it encourages others to get out and about along our fantastic coastline.”

Entries for the competition depicted coastline features ranging from flowers, insects, butterflies and birds to crabs and topshells.

Somerset Wildlife Trust’s coastal wildlife project officer, Ben Bryant, said: “Porlock Bay is a beautiful, beautiful location and this photo captures the essence of it.

“The tops of the old groynes at Porlock Weir, the shingle ridge and Bossington Hill in the distance; the poppies provide a great burst of colour and with that backdrop I can see why it was the winner.”
