SIR — I would like to say a big thank you to all the lovely residents who turned out on Saturday in pouring rain to support our Community Clean-Up Day.
It was an amazing example of Porlock at its best.
We are very proud of our superb street cleaner Eric, who does a wonderful job looking after the village, and the purpose of the day was to tackle areas outside his brief.
It is quite amazing how much can be achieved by a willing group of volunteers.
We were very grateful for the excellent support from Veolia, and in particular Julie Lynch, who supplied high visability jackets and removed the rubbish.
With positive attitudes as seen in our village, there is hope for the concept of the Big Society.
