PORLOCK Apple Day – fast becoming an autumn half-term fixture – proved a great success and highlighted the growing enthusiasm for natural products and community projects.
Many of those who visited the event, including from overseas and other parts of the UK, were impressed with the level of community involvement.
This year over £300 of the income from sales will be re-cycled in the village through donations to local groups.
In Porlock and the surrounding area, an increasing number of households have taken the opportunity to create their own stores of pasteurised apple juice.
“Our ‘customers’ get particular pleasure in being able to say that the juice they are offering friends and family comes from the tree in the back garden,” said group member Karen Mills.

Jeff Cox, chairman and the inspiration behind Porlock Apple Day, said: “It is a joy and privilege to be part of such a team of individuals that are still showing enthusiastic and happy loyalty to the venture we started in 2009.
“Not only have we restored a lovely old orchard but made both it and its produce both available for our village community and helped to pass on some of the knowledge we ourselves have gained.”
