Year 5 Danesfield School, Williton, pupil Poppy Taylor has received an early Christmas present from head teacher Dan Hartley for winning a Science Competition.
Poppy successfully answered every question set by the South-West region of the Ogden Trust, which also supplied the prize of a telescope.
The competition was part of Danesfield’s house points system. Pupils can win points for their house for outstanding work and effort in class, homework, meeting the school ethos and conduct within school, as well as through 100 per cent attendance each term, improving their literacy and numeracy.
Each term children compete in house sporting and creative arts competitions, also linked to the house system.
Staff and children are all allocated to the traditional houses – Luttrell, St Audries, Trevelyan and Wyndham.
Teacher Devin Vaughan said: “Children have really embraced the new house system. Everyone in the school looks forward to the scores being revealed and which house in leading.”
At the end of the year the winning house will have a banner hung from the hall rafters – a tradition that will continue annually.
