VOTERS in Minehead elected a Conservative and a Liberal Democrat in last week’s by-election for the North and South wards.

The results are: Minehead South – Benet Allen (Lib Dem), 318 votes, elected; Gary Miele (Con) 291; Maureen Smith (Labour) 125. The turnout was 37.3 per cent, the number of votes cast being 740.

Minehead North – Ralph Dinnick (Con) 182, elected; Mark Kingston-James (Independent) 106; Kathrine See (Lab) 101. Turnout, 22.4 per cent; ballot papers issued, 390.
