BISHOPS Lydeard Independent councillor Mike Rigby has switched his position on Somerset County Council and joined the Liberal Democrats.
A major critic of the authority’s Conservative administration, Cllr Rigby has joined the main opposition group to fight the “historic mistake” of Brexit and stand up for his residents.
He has represented the Lydeard division as an Independent since May 2013.
After his election, Cllr Rigby was invited by the Liberal Democrat group to serve in its shadow cabinet.
Cllr Rigby has now formally joined the party and the group, believing his membership will help to “transform the fortunes of our community, town and county”.
In a post on his official website on Wednesday (January 9), Cllr Rigby said he had been “travelling on parallel lines” to the Lib Dems at County Hall for some time.
