Two volunteers are needed to help Somerset County Council decide how much allowance to pay its councillors.
The Joint Independent Remuneration Panel is looking for two new members, who would receive a travel allowance for attending meetings and a small annual payment.
They need to be able to attend early evening meetings at County Hall four to six times a year and read reports before each meeting, and will need to commit to a three-year period with an option for a further three years.
A council spokesman said: “If you’re interested in local government and the way councils work, this is a fascinating and rewarding role.
“We would particularly like to hear from female applicants to address an imbalance in the panels membership.”
Councils are required by the Government to establish independent remuneration panels and must consider a report from the panel before changing councillors’ allowances.
Panel members combine information from councils and interviews with councillors when writing the report.
To apply for the position, send a copy of your CV and a short supporting statement stating why you think you are qualified for the role to Carol James at [email protected] or Julia Jones [email protected] or ring 01823 356859 or 359500.
Applications should be made by next Thursday (October 31).
