THE five candidates fighting the Bridgwater and West Somerset seat put their election campaigns into top gear this week for the last lap of the election trail leading to polling day on Thursday (June 8).
Four candidates – Wes Hinckes (Labour), Marcus Kravis (Liberal Democrat),Kay Powell (Green) and Simon Smedley (UKIP) – have included public debates in their campaigns, while Ian Liddell-Grainger (Conservative), who has held the seat for 16 years, preferred to meet voters on the doorstep.
Polling opens at 7am until 10pm in 72 stations across the constituency, supervised by 200 staff.
Voting papers will be taken to Bridgwater for counting and the result is expected at around 4am on Friday morning.
Votes will also be published on the Sedgemoor District Council website as soon as possible after the announcement.
Voters in the Taunton Deane constituency will be voting at 92 polling stations and the count takes place at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, Taunton.
The result will be announced around 2.30am-3am on Friday.
Polling cards have been sent to residents, who are advised to check their card to make sure they know which polling station to go to.
Anyone who has not received a poll card might not be registered to vote.
