One of West Somerset’s MPs has been appointed as a Shadow Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Energy Security as part of Kemi Badenoch’s new Conservative frontbench team.

The appointment follows changes to the Shadow Cabinet and the wider Conservative frontbench team.

Ashley Fox will serve alongside Shadow Secretary of State for Energy Security Andrew Bowie and Shadow Minister of State Luke Evans, with his specific portfolio responsibilities to be confirmed in due course.

The role has particular relevance to Fox’s Bridgwater constituency, with Hinkley Point C on its doorstep. One of the country’s largest infrastructure projects, Hinkley Point C is also a major employer in the county.

Mr Fox said he was delighted.

“I am looking forward to helping develop our plans for cheaper and more secure energy.”
