A WOMAN has been cautioned for wasting police time following an investigation into an alleged sexual assault in East Quantoxhead towards the end of last year.
A 52-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the initial incident was released without charge.
Detective Constable Andy Bath, of Taunton CID, said: "We take all reports of rape and sexual assault extremely seriously and will always carry out a full and thorough investigation.
"In this case, after a full examination of the evidence, a 43-year-old woman has been cautioned for wasting police time.
"False allegations of rape or sexual assault undermine the experiences of actual victims and we want to ensure those with genuine complaints have the confidence to come forward and speak to us."
