SIR — Club cricket throughout the country is in decline and Watchet is no exception, finding it difficult to retain committed players for a full season.

The 2nd XI in particular suffered last year because of the amount of travelling necessary to compete in the Somerset County League.

A decision was made to apply to join the West Somerset League which was successful, a move which will greatly reduce travelling time and also improve finances.

It will also, we hope, encourage more players to come forward to play cricket.

Watchet Cricket Club has a long and proud history, having had several players play for the county in years gone by.

With excellent facilities and one of the best playing areas in West Somerset, Watchet is looking for keen players for the 1st and 2nd XIs - contact us via Martin Strong on 07896 093237.

The club’s AGM is on January 15 at 6.30pm at the Watchet Football Club and anyone interested is welcome to come along.
