PLASTIC Free Minehead host its first film night at the Beach Hotel with a good number attending the free event.

It was organised in conjunction with newly-formed Plastic Free Watchet and Plastic Free Exmoor, and donations raised  are going to Surfers Against Sewage and Somerset Wildlife Trust.

Cal Major’s documentary, Vitamin Sea, charted her extraordinary journey paddle-boarding from Lands End to John O’Groats.

She made the record-breaking expedition to highlight plastic pollution. She took part in beach and river cleans on the way, showing people that spending time in nature is good for mental health and promotes a desire to protect the environment.

Cal was on hand to answer questions and to officially present local Plastic Free Champions their business awards.

Recipients were Dana’s Fish and Chip Bar in Minehead, Salad Days and Holi Moli beach huts at Dunster Beach, Stuart Lowen Butchers in Minehead and Dunster Beach Holidays.

Anyone wanting to get involved with their local Plastic Free campaign to reduce the amount of single-use plastic causing environmental harm should contact [email protected] or visit its Facebook page.
